How to Write a Personal Statement for Architecture

In order to attend an architecture school, you may have to meet several requirements. One of those requirements is to fill out a personal statement for the architecture program. This step in the process is to help the school obtain a better understanding of who you are and why you want to become an architect.

  1. Sit down with a pen and piece of paper to brainstorm ideas for your personal architecture statement. Think about your future goals and why you want to be an architect. Jot down a few reasons as to why you would fit into this school’s architect program or internship.

  2. Think of a great starter paragraph for your personal statement. You should always have an excellent introduction when starting out a personal statement. Think of a quote or another creative way to grab the reader’s attention.

  3. Start writing the body of your personal statement. This part of the statement is very important because you do not want to bore the reader with unnecessary information. Instead, enter information into the body of the statement that explains who you are and why architecture is important to you.

  4. Explain the experience you have obtained pertaining to architecture. Insert your experience into your text, because the more the reader know about you, the better off your statement will be.

  5. Write out the conclusion to your personal statement. This is the place to sum up all of your ideas and put them in one place. Leave the reader with a pleasant ending and make them curious to know more about you.

  6. Proof read the personal statement. Each time you write a letter, it is best to have someone proof read it for you.

  7. Sign and date the person statement letter. Always keep your documents dated in case later reference is needed.
