How to Write an Employee Training Program
Employee training programs are of the utmost importance not just for the employees but for the employer, too. Efficient and effective training contributes to employee retention and makes training less stressful for trainees. A large part of the employee training program is getting everything in writing and making it easy to understand and follow.
- Organize your pertinent information. Start with an explanation of what is expected of employees in training.
- Create an outline for the program. Make sure it covers every key area.
- Create categories for the outline of the program. This helps you to organize information efficiently.
- Plan the layout of the employee training program and decide how to convey it. Depending on the work, you might consider creating a training manual or a PowerPoint or a combination.
- Gather and organize the training information and assign it to the categories.
- Assemble the information into a flowing program that makes sense and follows a logical order. Keep it as simple as possible.
- Ensure you have covered every aspect of the job to include safety, the process, how the work flows and groups interact and what is expected of the trainee while in training and once it is completed.
- Assign an instructor to convey the information to the trainees within the chosen format(s).
- Ask for feedback during the training process. Trainees should be made aware that their input is important in improving training and making it as easy as possible.
- Note any problem areas once the training program is utilized and make the appropriate changes. Continually update the training program as needed.
