How to Write an Objective Employee Review

How to Write an Impressive Resume

Your resume is an extremely important tool in searching for a job. This is the only thing a potential employer will see at first so you have to ensure yours is effective. This prevents it from being dumped in the trash pile right away. From the title to the conclusion, there are some simple guidelines you should follow to make your resume stand out in a crowd.

When you go to write a resume, you need to make sure it is effective. Many resume writers will tell you that power words and things of that nature are the most important. Often this is not the case though. If a potential employer looks at a resume and believes it will be difficult to read, he won't take the time to get to those key points. With some simple guidelines, you can write an impressive resume that is sure to be looked at by recruiters.

  • Make sure your resume looks clean and organized. You want this document to be easy to read with white space between the different sections. Try to keep each section to six lines or less. The more impact you can create in just a few words, the more effective your resume will be.

  • Proofread the document and proofread it again. If you are sloppy when creating your resume, a recruiter may believe that you will be sloppy in fulfilling your job duties also. Look for syntax and grammatical errors as well as spelling and typographical errors. A simple mistake can take you out of the running.

  • Include titles, company names, cities and states along with dates of employment for jobs you have previously held. If the recruiter wishes to follow up with these employers, ensure he can do so with ease. If he cannot, he may become frustrated and give up.

  • Make sure your resume is direct. State your goals and your desired position. Follow up with the skills and qualifications you have for that particular job. Expertise should be included also, but be sure to remove any filler. Employers will spot this type of useless material quickly.

  • Be consistent in your use of italics, boldface, bullets and other special fonts. Uniformity is key to an effective resume as this lets an employer know you tend to stick with one format once it has been chosen. A first impression is very important so make sure you are projecting the image you would like to.
