Ideas for Decorating Townhomes

Your townhouse probably has limited space and decorating might appear as a bit of challenge. However, you can utilize the living quarters you do have in a positive way to give the appearance of more space, while decorating the area tastefully.

Stairs

Decorating your stairway of your home provides an additional space where you can add some flair. Light colored walls, such as tan and white give the stairwell the appearance of a more space, while allowing you to decorate easily, since the colors match anything and everything. Wrap ivy around the post of the stairs to add a hint of green, and enhance the stairs with an extra element of style without taking up a great deal of room. For the holidays, deck your hallway posts with holly leaves or garland.

Hallways

Place a pair of sconces, a picture or a mirror in your hallway to give the location some elegance. These items should not be large, overwhelming pictures or mirrors, but a small picture or two to adorn the hallway.

Colors

Bright, light colors work the best to give the illusion of more space. This includes colors like peach, light blue and violet. Neutral colors, tan and white, visually exchange the proportions of the room, while giving you an easy medium to work with.

Outside

Make your townhouse look homey with a wreath on the door. You can purchase light colored wreathes with peach or yellow colored flowers and embellishments for the warm months, and then switch to another wreath with deep oranges, reds and yellows for the autumn season. Do not forget to put a red and green wreath on your door for the holidays.

Lighting

Plenty of bright lights situated around your home will give the space an enlarged look, as well as provide you with light to see. Skylights on a second story assist in bringing more natural light into your living space, since your home may only have windows on two to three sides of it. Chandeliers and track lighting do not take up room on your tables or floors and increase the amount of light in a seemingly dingy room.
