Ideas for Log Home Interior Design

Ideas for log home interior design are quite similar to the rustic design style.  Homeowners can use the same colors, furniture and accent pieces in both styles.  Log home interior design does have the added benefit of using nicer, more elegant styles of wood furnishings. The following ideas may give you some ideas for decorating your log home.

• A log cabin looks best if it is styled with a rustic decor.  This can include the rough, outdoorsy look or a rustic elegance.


• Use furniture that complements the house.  This will include those made of wood and logs such as pine, oak and hickory.  Wrought iron and fabric such as leather and suede are also good choices.


• Lighting fixtures may include wrought iron chandeliers, electric candles or punched tin lanterns.  Another direction to take the lighting fixtures is to go with animal décor such as the antler chandelier.


• Consider draping a flannel blanket over the back of a couch or chair or display a family heirloom quilt by hanging it on a wall.


• Hardwood floors look nice with braided area rugs scattered throughout the rooms.  The rugs add a bit of character and warmth.  Other options include southwestern rugs or those accented with animals. A bear rug in front of a fireplace is a typical log cabin scene.


• The colors used to decorate a log cabin are those of earth tones to give the design a rustic appearance.  Such colors include green, brown and cream.  Accent colors in deep red or rust will help give additional color.


• Accessorize the kitchen with dried flowers and old crocks while the bathrooms can take on an outhouse appearance.
