Ideas for Valentine's Day Gifts for Kids
Valentine's Day is not only for couples, it is celebrated by children as well. When your child returns home from school with cards from classmates, surprise them with a special gift of your own. From homemade items to gift baskets, there are plenty of ways to show your child how much you love and care for them on Valentine's Day.
Sweet Treats
Chocolates are a popular gift exchanged between couples on Valentine's Day, but they can also be appreciated by children. Holidays are a special time of the year, when children may be allowed to indulge in treats. You can use a colorful gift bag or small box to place chocolates and other candies in. Look for some of your child's favorite items, such as caramels, chocolate covered pretzels or peanut butter cups. If you are concerned about the high amount of sugar in candy, look for items that are labeled sugar-free.
Gift Baskets
For the child who has everything or when you can't decide on just one item, try arranging a few items in a colorful gift basket. Boys will enjoy a new hat, wallet, cars, video games or sports items. For girls, add in make-up, dolls and cute hair accessories. Baskets for younger children can be filled with coloring books, crayons and soft stuffed animals. Books, small toys and puzzles are all good choices for filling up the basket. Complete the basket by adding in some Valentine's Day items, such as heart-shaped candies and pink or red t-shirts.
Jewelry
For preteen or teenage girls, a heart locket, ring or new pair of earrings are a special gift. Look for items that feature hearts or pink gems. Add a special touch to the item you choose by having it engraved with her name or a special message. For older boys, look for dog tags or a silver chain that can be engraved. Toddlers and preschool age children will enjoy necklaces made of small candy rings.
Homemade Items
Create a special dessert for your child to eat on Valentine's Day. Make red velvet cupcakes and decorate them with pink or red-colored icing. Use a heart-shaped cookie cutter to make a dozen of your child's favorite cookies.
Create a unique card or scrapbook with colored paper, ribbons and embellishments. Write a special message or include poems related to Valentine's Day. Add pictures of your family participating in memorable activities to complete the card or book.
