Industrial Painting Procedures
Industrial painting involves all large-scale painting such as of commercial buildings or institutions, equipment, as well as other infrastructure. Industrial painters use brushes, rollers or spraying equipment in their work. The paint used is usually oil or polymer based, unlike the acrylic and latex based ones used in homes.
Painting Techniques
Industrial painters use a number of techniques depending on the size of the project. Sprayers are often used and they require proper usage to avoid accidents. The type of spray gun or device used is determined by the type of paint used and the finish desired. The painters consider the paint properties when working in extreme temperatures. The exteriors of building and metal surfaces will also require different considerations. The paint has to be applied on as fast as possible.
Paint Thinning
A solvent may be required to thin out paint in preparation for use. Solvents differ in consistency and some are flammable. The thinner is also used to clean a painted surface in preparation for a new coat of paint.
Materials
Industrial painting requires the use of heavy- duty oil-based paints that are designed to withstand extreme weather conditions. These paints are more durable and will not require frequent re-painting. Industrial painters use lifts, rigs and scaffolding to tackle high altitudes. This will require effort and expertise to manage.
Sandblasting
Before painting begins, the surface must be prepared. This entails removing any rust, dirt or grease marks on the surface. Large complexes require sandblasters to tackle the foreign elements. The sandblaster uses a high-pressure hose with abrasive sand to scour the surfaces, blasting off all the impurities in preparation for painting.
Industrial Considerations
Industrial painters may be required to paint areas that are in constant use during the painting. Areas with high human traffic such as airports, roads and train stations which remain open during painting will require the painters to use caution while also warning the public. Working in the presence of toxic materials poses difficulty for industrial painters.
