Installing Batt, Rolled and Reflective Insulation
Batt insulation, rolled insulation and reflective insulation are the most common types of material used to insulate a building. Although the material are different, all of them are excellent insulators. They are all installed using the same types of tools and methods.
Supplies Needed:
- Insulation ( Batts, Rolls, or Reflective) Depending on your preference
- Tape measure
- Ladder
- Staple gun
- Utility knife
- Long sleeve shirt
- Pencil
- Put on a long sleeved shirt before you begin so that the insulation does not irritate your skin.
- Using the tape measure, measure the length from ceiling to floor for the wall that you are going to insulate.
- Using your utility knife to slice open the packaging around the insulation, but be sure not to cut the insulation itself.
- Unroll the insulation. This will let you see the size of each insulation section.
- Measure the insulation with your tape measure using the same measurement from step 1.
- Mark the measurement onto the insulation with a pencil or marker.
- Using the utility knife cut the insulation in a straight line at the mark you made with the pencil.
- Position your ladder near the wall that is to be insulated. Make sure the ladder is steady and on a flat part of the floor.
- Carry your insulation to the wall and position it so it fits tightly with no gaps. This is important that it fits snugly into the wall so that heat does not escape.
- Using the staple gun, staple the insulation to the wall on each side, and about every 12 inches from the ceiling to floor.
- Repeat Steps 2 through 11 until the rest of the room has been insulated.
