The shelves can be placed anywhere in the garage that works best for you, and put up high enough to keep out of reach is you have small children. With the right tools your can have you own built-in garage shelving in no time.
Things you'll need:
- 2x4 inch boards
- 1/2 inch plywood
- Oriented strand board (optional)
- Level
- Electric drill
- Nails
- Deck screws
- Place the studs on the garage wall to support the shelves. The studs can be placed about 4 feet apart for a good hold and support of the shelves.
- Build the shelf supports. Create the spacing required between the shelves by attaching the horizontal supports to the vertical support. When done the support should look like a half ladder with the horizontal support, the rugs of the ladder and the vertical support on the legs of the ladder as well.
- Fasten these shelf supports to the studs on the garage wall. Use a level to help fasten the horizontal supports to the studs. This will ensure you get the appropriate height of 4 feet. Fasten all the parts of the shelf supports together with about 16 nails or either 2 1/2 inch deck screws.
- Fasten 4-foot-long horizontal supports between the two supports that you already have attached to the garage wall. Place one of the horizontal supports along the wall, and the other horizontal support should be placed to connect the supports at the front of the shelves. All four sides of each shelf should be supported by a horizontal support once you are done.
- Cut the plywood down to the correct size and place them to fit on the shelves .To attach the plywood to the shelf for support use 1 or 1 1/4 inch deck screws.
