Introduction to 1960s Retro Fashion

The 1960s were a highly evolved time in fashion history. It was a time when fashion broke the boundaries of the 1950s and brightly colored space age clothing and short skirts were all the rage. These fashion styles were the most known that turned the decade.

Go-Go Boots

Go-Go boots were paired with the popular mini skirt created by Mary Quant. This was a controversial look when it first appeared in 1963 and began to have some notoriety at Go-Go dance clubs, a popular place for gentleman. Go-Go boots were also on par with the space age fashionable clothing of the mid 1960s, since they had platform heels and were shiny and white.

Bell Bottom Pants

In 1964, bell bottoms were all the rage and came in place of the tight fitted capris and cigarette pants of the past decade. These pants were usually made out of funky and psychedelic fabrics of paisley print. They were considered a comfortable choice among young men and women and could be worn with a ribbed turtleneck or a midriff bearing suede top.

Shift Dresses

As part of the new colorful clothing revolution, brightly colored mod shift dresses were the one to get. These simple cut a-line dresses could be worn with small kitten heels and dangled hoop earrings. Geometric patterns were a popular design on shift dresses, but plain bright colors of red, green, white, and blue were also a commodity. Shift dresses evolved into long maxi dresses with bell sleeves by the late 60s and early 70s.
