Invisible Braces vs Metal Braces

Invisible Braces Side Effects

For a lot of people the thought of getting traditional braces is just not something they are willing to do.  Many people are trying invisible braces as an alternative.  Before deciding on this alternative it is important to know that in some orthodontic patients invisible braces have side effects.  Make sure that you are aware of everything before deciding on which route to go.

Some patients may notice a feeling of pressure when wearing their invisible braces.  This usually is because your teeth are starting to move to their correct form.  Another small side effect from invisible braces is that you may start to talk with a slight lisp.  Normally after you have adjusted to wearing the invisible braces your lisp will disappear.  Some people find that their invisible braces can be difficult to remove and insert.  As your teeth begin to straighten it should be a lot easier to insert and remove your new orthodontic hardware.

In much more extreme cases the Food and Drug Administration of the United States has issued a warning to the company that makes the invisible braces known as invisalign.  There have been many known side effects reported by the patients who have been wearing the invisible braces.  Some of these include but are not limited to:  Sore throat and lips, swollen lymph nodes, congestion, fatigue and life threatening swelling.

You should talk to your dentist and/or orthodontist to decide which will be the best route for you to take. If you experience any of the more serious side effects as mentioned above from the invisible braces you should call your orthodontist right away.
