Is Dance a Sport?
There has long been a debate about whether or not dance is considered a sport. In some places it is and others it is not, you have to decide for yourself if you think dance is a sport. Take into consideration the training and demands of dance to make your decision.
When people ask if dance is a sport they will get a variety of answers. Dancers are normally on teams, which leads you to believe it is a sport. They train hard, just as hard as traditional athletes and diet is a huge part of keeping in shape. So why wouldn’t dance be considered a sport?
One reason people are often unwilling to see dance as a sport is because there are costumes and sets and the dancers are peppy and happy. The costumes throw people off, making it appear more like a play or drama club activity. If you can view the costumes as a uniform, you might see dance in a different light.
Dancers train hard. Not only do they spend many hours in the studio, they are often required to keep in shape and eat a healthy diet. A dancer’s body is kept in the best shape and form possible. They must be able to endure hours of dancing, as well as the flexibility to perform stunts and a poses.
Dance is a sport. It may not always get the recognition from other traditional sports that it should, but if you ever spend a few days watching a dancer train, you will see a dedicated athlete.
