Job Description of a Pediatric Oncologist

A pediatric oncologist is a doctor that is responsible for treating cancer in children and young adults. These type of doctors are usually based at a hospital. It will take a pediatric oncologist a number of years to become qualified as a skilled physician.

A pediatric oncologist's daily job role is the treatment of cancer. Even though they treat young adults, they will mainly diagnose and treat people below the age of 18.



Becoming a pediatric oncologist will require obtaining a bachelor's degree in a subject such as biology. You will need to become accepted to medical school and complete a residency in pediatrics. This stage does require you to pass your state medical board licensing examination.



After successful completion of the residency, the pediatrician is expected to complete specialty training in pediatric oncology to work as a licensed pediatric oncologist.
