Jobs in the Hair and Beauty Industry

Hair and beauty careers are fun and profitable for those who are interested in styling and make up. There are many job options in the hair and beauty industry that range from selling cosmetics to being a hairdresser. Most of these jobs don't require a college degree although vocational school is needed.

Hair Stylist

Hair stylists usually work in salons and can run their own unique businesses. Some are employed by spas, luxury hotels, and freelanced by celebrities. Hair stylists must learn how to cut hair evenly with a variety of different hair tools including razors. They must also be well aware of the different types of color variations when working with chemical hair dyes. A cosmetology license is more often than not needed for working in a salon or starting a business. Getting a license can be done in one year at a vocational school or a beauty academy.

Cosmetic Sales Manager

A cosmetic sales manager will look over cosmetic merchandise delivered to a department store. They will tell the employees how to display the cosmetics and what to do if a customer is interested. This is a rank position, which can be earned after being in a cosmetics department for a certain amount of years. An alternative way to be a sales manager is to get a degree in business and show interest in beauty and cosmetology.

Esthetician

Estheticians provide skin treatments for clients. They work at spas or small salons and will pamper clients' skin with special blended botanicals. A license is needed before working as an esthetician, since part of the job includes using laser treatments on customers. Many estheticians work closely with their clients and provide them the skin care that matches up with their skin type.
