How to Estimate Lawn Mowing

Lawn Maintenance Techniques

Every homeowner desires to have a lush lawn to enjoy. A good lawn does not come by accident, rather it takes hard work. By using a few different techniques, you can have a lawn that your whole family will enjoy.

Use these techniques to have a stellar lawn:

  • Mowing - A properly cut lawn may seem to be the simplest step, but it is often neglected or done improperly. The DIY Network suggests that you cut no more of 1/3 of the height of your lawn at one time. By cutting more than that, you can cause the grass to wither and grow improperly in the future.

  • Watering - At certain times of the year, the rain that your lawn receives will be sufficient to feed it. Most times however, you will need to supplement the rain with your own water. Each week, your yard should receive about one inch of water. Place a rain gauge in your yard to help you see how much water your lawn needs from your sprinkler system. If you do not have an underground sprinkler system, you can hand water with a hose and nozzle attachment.

  • Fertilizing - Proper fertilization helps your lawn receive the nutrition that it lacks in the soil. The type of fertilizer that you will need depends on what part of the country you live; soil varies greatly depending on region. Talk to a local lawn specialist to find the mix that's right for your lawn.

  • Pest control - If ants, fleas or chinch bugs infest your lawn, your hard work could be ruined. It is best to contact a pest control company about spraying services. You can also find pest control products at Home Depot or Lowes.
