List of Newspaper Jobs

Making a newspaper requires quite a few staff members with different job types to get the paper finished. Editors, publishers, writers, and even reporters will all work together to complete the task. These are the key newspaper jobs to get the news out to the public.

Editors

Editors look at all the work in the writing room. They will oversee everyone’s progress on each snippet of the paper and will help out someone if they are unsure how to word a news piece. They will look at the photos used and tell an employee if it’s a good or bad image to incorporate for an article. Editors will then look at the final pages and determine if it is ready to be copied or if the pages need to be worked out more.

Copy Editors

A copy editor’s duty is to read the final pages of the paper after the editor hands it over. They need to look for any grammar errors or odd wording on every page. They also need to do some fact checking to make sure every sentence is accurate and documented. This job requires at least a bachelor’s degree in English and language arts.

Page Layout Designer

This person gets to work on the computer to piece the newspaper together. They should excel in graphics and formatting to move pictures on the left or right of the text and keep ads at the top or bottom of each page. They need to follow the exact layout instructions from the editors.

Reporters

Reporters are the ones who get interesting news facts for the paper. They will attend court, interview various prominent people, and go out in the community to find anything noteworthy. They will then right down notes and tell the writers and editors their findings.
