List of the Cheapest Brands of House Paint
Regardless of whether you want to give your home a beautiful custom paint job or want to start your own house painting business, buying the paint is the single most expensive part of the job. For that reason, you need to educate yourself about the different paints available, how to find the cheapest paint for the job and exactly which house paint to use for interior and exterior projects.
Creating a list of the cheapest brands of paint is not so much about the actual brand so much as how and where you buy that paint. Whether you are painting with enamels, latex, acrylics or oils, knowing how to compare brands will allow you to get the optimum paint for the cheapest price. Expensive paints generally cover better and require little to no surface prep. Cheaper paints tend to require multiple coats. Therefore, if you can get the quality paint for the cost of the cheap paint, you have gotten a real bargain. Here are the best places to look for surprisingly good quality paint at the cheapest prices.
- Go online and search for closeouts, mis-tints and discontinued colors. You can also use your search to find vendors who sell discontinued and mis-tinted paint directly out of a warehouse. You can, for instance, buy quality paint that is just a shade off the particular off white the customer wanted for as little as $5 a gallon.
- Go to a paint supply vendor or hardware store and ask about discontinued or clearance paint. There is nothing wrong with it; the can may have a small dent in it. Again, you will find good paint, cheap.
- Check out the big box stores. Home Depot, Lowe's, Big Lots, Walmart, Kmart and Sears all have house brand paints at rock bottom prices. You can purchase paint even more cheaply if you are willing to purchase in 5-gallon pails. Additionally, check out their closeout sections. There you will sometimes find their top of the line paints priced more cheaply than their own house brands.
- Determine if you have a Habitat Re-store in your area. If you do, it is worth checking out whether they happen to have any paint. Since they take donations, sometimes they have paint in stock. You will find all kinds of quality paint at super low prices and help your community charity.
