How to Calculate Tire Dimensions

Manual Tire Changer Instructions

A manual tire changer will allow you to change the tires on your car, truck, van or motorcycle at your convenience.  You no longer need to worry about paying a mechanic to remove the tires; you can do it yourself.  Setting up the tire changer is not difficult if you follow the instructions.

  1. Bolt the machine to the floor for maximum stability.  You can also mount it to a metal plate or heavy piece of plywood.  Mounting the machine will keep it from moving when you are using it.

  2. Open the air valve on the tire to release air from the tire.  You may need a Schrader wrench to complete this process easily.

  3. Take the tire off the rim by using the manual tire changer machine.  There is a special tool on the bottom of the machine that will do this for you.  Put the stick of the machine on the edge of the tire rim.  Make sure the tire is centered in place.  Press down on the tire to get it off the rim.  You will need to do this in three separate spots on the tire to prevent tire damage.

  4. Flip the tire over and repeat this process on the opposite side of the tire.

  5. Remove the top of the machine and put the tire in place.  You will need to lock it down with a pin through a bolt hold.  Put the four point lock on the tire and screw the top portion of the machine in place.

  6. Put a coat of lubricant or dishwasher fluid on the edge of the tire near the rim.  This lubricant will help ease the tire onto the rim without damaging the tire.

  7. Put the pointed end of the machines stick between the edge of the tire and the rim.  Pull the tire’s edge over the rim.

  8. Rotate the stick around the edge of the tire to put the tire on the rim.  You will need to complete this process with the other side of the tire.
