Mold Abatement Specifications
If there is water, you may find mold, as mold has to have moisture to grow. If you have a large moldy area, you should contact a professional. Mold abatement specifications will vary, depending upon what type of mold you have. It is important, as soon as you see the mold to get it taken care of properly so it will not continue growing.
- Take an assessment of the mold. The first thing you should do is do a scientific and visual assessment of the mold to determine how what type you have, and the best way you can remove it. A professional can use cables to look for mold in hard to see areas, such as cracks and between the walls. Doing an assessment is crucial because you need to know how much mold you have growing. If you do not get all of it cleaned up, it will continue to grow.
- Measure the moister, humidity, and temperature to determine if the mold has access to food to help it grow. If you see mold growing behind the walls, in cracks or a hole, you should not attempt to clean it yourself, especially if it is a large area. Test a sample of the mold if anyone that has been around it has become ill.
- Wear protective clothing before you start cleaning the mold, such as a mask on your face, gloves, and keep your skin covered. Place dehumidifiers and air filters into the area with the mold to clean the air of the mold spores. This also cuts mold off from the food source. Use HEPA vacuums and a damp cloth to clean mold spores, to ensure that the mold does not grow back.
- Clean the mold yourself if the area is small, but if it is a large area you should hire a professional. To do it yourself clean the area with a cleaning solution and when you’re finished dry the area immediately.
