Mold and Mildew Removal in the Basement
Mold and mildew are an annoying and hazardous fungi that typically grow in basements as well as other areas of the home. If you have noticed mold and mildew growing in your basement, it is important to begin the removal process. If you do not remove the mold and mildew from the basement, the problem will only get worse and can end up causing many health issues for you and your family.
Basement Mold and Mildew Removal
To begin the removal process, you should first remove items in your basement in which mold and mildew may be hiding behind. You should also look for any leaks. Leaks can cause water buildup which will eventually result in the growth of mold and mildew. Once you have made any repairs that need to be fixed to prevent the fungi, you can begin to eliminate what is already grown in your basement. You can use a mild detergent and a sponge to scrub the affected areas. Once you have scrubbed the majority of mold and mildew from the basement, you can use a mold disinfectant and cleansing spray, such as Moldex.
Prevent Mold and Mildew From Coming Back
After you have successfully gotten rid of the mold and mildew, you will need to take certain measures to prevent it from growing back. Mold and mildew thrive in areas that are dark and moist. You should do your best to eliminate the moistness in your basement. If you have basement windows, you should keep them open as much as possible to allow air to properly circulate. You can also put a fan in your basement and leave it on so that the air will be able to circulate. You will need to continue to check your basement at least once a week for any mold and mildew growth. If you find that new mold and mildew are growing in your basement, you can repeat the cleansing process.
