Most Important Factors to Consider When Replacing a Headlamp
A car's headlights are very crucial to driving at night. A burned out headlight can limit the field of view and can lead to accidents and even a violation. Replacing your car's headlamp is a simple procedure you can do yourself in a matter of a few minutes.
Changing a Headlamp
1. Determine if your headlamp needs to be replaced or only the bulb. Some headlamps have small halogen bulbs that are easily replaced. If you see a small black plastic knob in the back of the headlamp, unscrew it and remove the bulb. Inspect the bulb to see if it has blown out. Typically the bulb will look dark if it needs to be replaced. If the bulb looks fine, your headlamp is the issue. If the bulb is burned out, simply replace the bulb.
2. If your headlamp is the issue, then you will first unplug the headlamp then remove the screws that hold the metal band around the headlamp. There are usually four short screws that hold the band in place. Make sure you keep the screws together so you don't lose them.
3. After removing the band your headlamp will be loose. Remove the rubber backing, and then remove the headlamp pulling it from the rear.
4. Install the new headlamp by setting it in place. Place the rubber cover back over the headlamp and secure the band with the screws. Plug the headlamp back in and test it by turning on your headlights.
