Nail Care Tips and Tricks

Well groomed hands and nails say a lot about a person. It says that they take the time to care for themselves and also that they care how others perceive them. Properly cared for nails can grow to be long healthy and beautiful. Caring for your nails is not hard, and onlys take a little time. There are many easy ways that you can care for your nails that do not cost much.

  • Nail polish is not good for your nails and often contains harsh chemicals that can often cause your nails to become dry and brittle. Natural nails are the healthiest nails. However, if you wish to polish your nails you can use a base coat first to protect the surface of your nail from the ingredients in your nail polish. Apply a coat of base coat to your nails before painting and allow it to dry thoroughly before applying your nail polish.

  • Nail polish remover contains acetone which is terrible for the delicate surface of your nails. That is why it is very important to allow time in between uses. Using a quality top coat when you paint your nails helps your polish to maintain its finish longer, preventing flaking and chipping. If you use your hands a lot, or often have your hands in the water, you may want to apply two or three coats of top coat after painting your nails. Be sure that you let each coat dry thoroughly before adding the next coat.

  • A common problem for many people is hang nails. Hang nails develop when the cuticle around your nail is allowed to become too dry causing it to split and break. You can easily prevent this by applying a small amount of olive or almond oil to your fingernails on a regular basis. Allow the oil to sit for five minutes and then wash your hands. This treatment keeps your cuticles and nails well moisturized and prevents hang nails.

  • Buff your nails regularly to remove any imperfections that may form on the surface of your nails. This also helps to remove the dead particles at the surface of your nail and allows new, healthier nails to form in their place. Buffing your nails also makes them shinier and look healthier.
