A degree in naturopathy allows for the degree holder to practice medicine, teach or excel in research. Naturopathic doctors combine the best of traditional and non-traditional medicine in order to help achieve the best outcome for their patients. The goal of a good naturopathic doctors is to:
- Focus on the whole person, not just physical health, but the person’s overall situation. Due to the balanced training their degree provides, naturopathic doctors have the ability to incorporate psychological counseling, acupuncture, nutrition and spirituality. The combination of these elements allows them to treat their patients as individuals and not their diseases.
- Focus on diet and nutrition. Naturopathic doctors take the time to understand that what their patients put into their bodies affects how they feel. Rather than treating their patients with toxic drugs and artificial chemicals, they take advantage of any nutritional adjustments to their patients diet that may prove helpful. The goal is to provide the body with the nutrition it needs to encourage the body to heal itself.
- Focus on prevention and overall wellness rather than reacting to symptoms. Patients are empowered with maintaining their own good health and as a result, they become partners in the healing process rather than taking orders from a doctor in a white coat. A good naturopathic doctor has mastered the skills needed to combine nature and traditional medicine to help their patients achieve their optimal health level.
