Paving Stone and Patio Designs

Patio Designs Made From Loose Material

Loose material like small stones and plants are great for patio designs. These patio designs will work better in warmer climates that don't have a lot of snow or harsh weather. The small stones and plants will be easily damaged from the snow and ice.

Creating Designs

Create a design before purchasing any materials. Write down different designs you like on a piece of paper. Try being as specific as possible as to what types of materials you want to include and exactly where you want them. This will help you get a visual feel for what your patio will look like.

Create an Outline

Start creating your design by placing the loose material around the perimeter. It will be a lot easier to work on your patio once you have the foundation in place. A lot of people like to place small plants stored in containers around the perimeter. This will allow for a lot of flexibility in design since the plants are stored in containers.

Finishing the Project

There are many types of loose stone you could put on the ground. Loose stone will also make it easy to include patio furniture like chairs and tables. Decorative stone comes in many colors to choose from as well. Another alternative is some type of decorative straw or pine needles. The pines needles and straw will hold moisture in longer however and is a lot more likely than stone to blow away in the wind.
