Prices for Auto Painting

Whenever you want to get your car painted the first thing that you should do is look around for auto painting prices.  You will find that these prices will vary a lot depending upon the quality of the job, the type of vehicle you want to have painted and the amount of additional bodywork that you need to have done.

Typical Costs

  • Most cars will cost you between $250 and $400 to have them painted.

  • If you go to a middle of the road auto body shop, you can expect to pay between $1,000 and $2,000 depending upon the amount of work that your car needs to have done.

  • A custom body shop will charge you between $4,000 and $8,000.  This price will include doing such things as removing a lot of different parts, changing the color of the car’s paint, detailing your engine, rebuilding any of the mechanical parts and having chrome plating done.

Additional Costs

  • There are a lot of different upgrades available regardless of the paint shop you choose to deal with.  For instance, you may choose to upgrade to a better quality paint, have more than two coats of paint applied or have a clear coat of paint applied on top of the base coats.

  • Your car may need to have bodywork done before it can be painted.  Small things, such as dents, will cost you between $200 and $500.

Possible Discounts

  • You may save a few hundred dollars by sanding your own car and removing parts that won’t be painted.  This is because there will be less prep work and thus less labor costs for the shop.

  • Shop around for quotes.  Prices and quality may even vary by stores within the same chain.

Tips

  • Make sure to ask about the warranty before having your car painted.  A bad paint job will last you less than three years while a good warranty will last you five years.

  • Visit the body shop before you schedule an appointment to have your car painted.  This will allow you to see how well they do on other cars.  Also, check out their record with the Better Business Bureau.
