How to Get Rid of a Cash Call

Private Nonprofit Cash Assistance

When an unforeseen obstacle threatens your financial ability to pay your bills it is good to know that there are nonprofit agencies available to help you.  Whether your car is in need of repair or you are unable to make your utility, rent or mortgage payments, you can find places that offer cash assistance, or utility bill assistance.

Religious Affiliations

Whether you are Muslin, Jewish, Christian, or another religion, it is helpful to know that many religious affiliations offer help to members and nonmembers of their congregations.  Visit your local congregation and ask to speak with a social service advisor.  Either the leader, such as a priest, imam, or rabbi will help you to maintain your housing and utility bills.  Some programs even have money available to aid in childcare payments and emergency car repairs.

Independent Nonprofit Agencies

The “First Call for Help” is a program brought to you by the United Way.  This telephone service supplies callers with resources that serve your particular area.  Upon locating an agency, ask about the qualifications that you must meet in order to apply for their financial help.  Gather all of your paperwork and make an appointment to meet with a social worker.

Energy Assistance

When you are unable to pay your utility and energy bills consider applying for an energy assistance program that is offered through your electricity and natural gas providers.  Many states have cold weather rule laws that disallow electricity and natural gas companies from turning your service off during the cold winter months.  These programs help you to pay your winter heating costs if you earn under the federal poverty guidelines.
