Problems With Hankook Tires

Two recent recalls have led to rumors that there are severe problems with Hankook tires. Hankook tire reviews are mixed, with some customers reporting high levels of satisfaction. However, serious Hankook tire problems have been reported, including ones, which have caused fatal accidents.

One of the most obvious things about Hankook tires is that they are cheap. This might make them a tempting choice for the motorist on a budget. These tires are also widely used by Chinese automobile manufacturers.

Problems reported by customers with these tires include bulging and sidewall rupturing. Others have stated that they have no problem and even spoken positively of the ride and grip the company's tires provide. The tires have a history of unexpected blowouts, often at highway speeds. In June of 2011, Hankook recalled their 11R22.5 AH18 model tires, used on trucks and buses, produced in the fiftieth week of 2010 due to manufacturing defects. This came in the wake of another recall in December 2010, this time affecting certain tires sold as after market replacements for passenger cars. The problems were connected to radial wires emerging from the seams. Problems like this would certainly explain the history of sidewall problems.

Obviously, a cheap tire cannot be expected to be as good as a more expensive one and there are still many customers satisfied with Hankook tires. These tires are found on some popular family cars including Volkswagen vehicles made in China. The problems appear to mostly surround Hankook tires made towards the end of 2010 and tires manufactured before or after this period are likely to be safe. Given the seriousness of the past problems with these tires, however, caution is advisable. Even one highway blowout, after all, is one too many.
