Problems in Financial Management
Well-managed finances enable people and companies to move forward with their goals. When problems in financial management escalate to unmanageable levels, they can lead to the breakdown of businesses, poor credit, homelessness and the inability to proceed as planned.
Overview
Financial management occurs at many levels and in many environments. People manage their own personal finances. Financial managers oversee the finances of individuals and groups. Finance directors manage the finances of companies. Governments oversee the economics of a country. Problems in financial management can occur on numerous levels and ways.
Inaccurate Budgeting
Budgeting is a fundamental principle in financial management. An accurate forecasting and budgeting process allows for the availability of funds to meet necessary demands. When the process of budgeting is absent or faulty, it can result in a variety of problems. Important expenses might be ignored in project management, causing a shortage of funds for its completion. In the case of no budgeting habit, a person might end up without enough cash, progressing blindly through life's financial demands.
Debt Accumulation
Improper financial forecasting often leads to greater debt accumulation. People, companies and institutions are forced to borrow money just to stay afloat. In some cases, debt accumulation cannot be avoided. Natural disasters and catastrophic accidents or illnesses are examples of events that cause problems for financial managers.
Cash Flow Issues
Another problem when managing finances is not having enough cash to meet expenses. Small businesses sometimes encounter this if a client does not issue payments on time. This may, in turn, lead to inability to pay for overhead expenses or to issue timely paychecks to employees.
