Project Ideas for Wall Bookshelves

Bookshelves do not have to be relegated to just holding books. Wall bookshelves can be a large decorating element in a room and it is a good idea to make use of that extra space for decorating. This gives you more space to add your signature look to your home.

Wall Bookshelf Decorating

A wall bookshelf unit offers a homeowner a great venue for decorating and adding a personal touch to any room of the house. There is no reason that the only use for a bookshelf unit is to hold books, with many other uses for bookshelves. Simply painting the bookshelves can change the entire look and feel of a room. Paint the bookshelves a contrasting color to the wall and you have created a focal point for the room in a very short amount of time.

Wall Bookshelf Uses

Another great idea for decorating a wall bookshelf unit is to add lighting to the unit. You can make it simple by adding battery operated lighting to softly illuminate a certain item or shelf. You can also add electric spotlights and other types of lighting to light the entire unit or each individual shelf. Instead of just having books on your bookshelves you can add pictures, vases, heirlooms and other decorative pieces to the shelves to achieve a beautiful yet personal feel. If you do keep some books on the shelves, make sure they are arranged in a decorative fashion. Make sure like sized books are on the same shelf and that they are all covered the same. A bookshelf that is visible to all that enter the home is not the best place to store paperback books.
