Recipe for a Window Cleaning Solution

An effective non-streak window cleaning solution is truly essential to a pristine home. There are many cleaning products on the market that are way too pricey. Be smart and a little frugal by making your own window cleaner at home with everyday low-cost ingredients. There are numerous helpful recipes out there that will leave your glass squeaky clean. However, one first rate formula will do the job nicely.

You will need:

  • rubber gloves

  • mask

  • one gallon bucket

  • 2 cups rubbing alcohol

  • 1/2 cup ammonia

  • 1 teaspoon liquid dish soap

Before beginning, it is important to wear rubber gloves and a mask for protection against toxins when using ammonia. Do not breathe it into your lungs or allow it to soak into your skin.

Mix together the rubbing alcohol, ammonia and liquid dish soap in a one gallon bucket. Fill the pail carefully to the top with warm water to make your own homemade window cleaning solution.  Combine carefully, adding ingredients slowly to prevent the product from splashing onto your skin or clothes. Continue to wear protection while cleaning your windows.Store your cleanser in a cool, dry place away from bleach products and out of children's reach. Safety comes first. There are several different methods for cleaning glass windows.

Directly from the bucket, you can use a squeegee with an expandable handle to apply the cleanser and wash the glass to a spotless, sparkling shine. If you prefer, store your window cleaning solution in a spray bottle. Spray and polish with crumpled newspaper or a cotton cloth. Never clean windows in the glare of the hot sun. This will cause them to dry too fast and streak.
