Requirements for Applying to Alternative Medicine Schools

Becoming a practitioner of some form of alternative medicine is not something that is accomplished by reading a book and opening an office.  In many nations, this career path requires study at an institution and the need to complete a certification or degree program.  Fortunately, finding and applying at the right school is easier than many people realize.

Applying to alternative medical schools is somewhat different from seeking entrance into a western medical school.  This is because the requirements are different than training to be a practitioner in some form of western medicine.  Typically, seeking to study at an alternative school will require compliance with the criteria established by a particular school or by the association that offers accreditation to that school.

  1. Identify the type of alternative medicine you wish to pursue.  This helps you to narrow the focus to institutions that will provide the type of training required to practice that particular discipline. You can find schools offering the courses and certification programs necessary by searching online for information about training programs related to the field you have in mind.

  2. Check for accreditation.  In some nations, alternative medicine schools are recognized medical institutions and are operated in accordance with standards put in place by governmental agencies.  Other nations may or may not impose much in the way of regulations, leaving the schools to function with their own standards or the standards of an independent agency that provides accreditation to alternative medical schools operating within specific nations.  Your goal is to identify which of the schools on your list are accredited in some manner and focus on those options.

  3. Determine the standards for admittance.  It is not unusual for alternative medical schools to require students to possess at least a high school education, with some college credits being a plus.  Other requirements may be in place, such as residency within the area for a certain amount of time.  Once you know which schools are likely to accept your application, you can take the steps to do so.

  4. Fill out the application paperwork.  Make sure to include copies of any supporting documentation required by the institution.  Provide complete answers to all questions, so there are no issues that could delay processing or possibly lead to rejection due to insufficient information.  With a little luck and perseverance, you will be accepted into the alternative medical school of your choice and be on your way to a new and exciting career.
