Residential Roof Types
There are several types of residential roof types that add to the attractiveness of the home. In order to know which best suits your home and the appearance you want to achieve, it is best to know the types of roofs on the market.
Gable
Gable roofs are typed of sloped roof. The two halves of the roof come together to form a peak. Gable roofs come in a variety of styles, but all have the same design concept. These roofs have basic structure. The gable may rest in different positions on the roof. This is how they are placed in categories. However, gable roofs are not ideal for all regions. These roofs do not hold up well against high winds.
Saltbox
A saltbox roof may look a gable roof that is asymmetrical. The length of one side of the roof is longer than the other. This type of roof has two stories on one side of the house, while the other half is only one story. Sometimes, it can have two stories in the front of the house and only one story in the back.
Hip
The hip roof has four sloping sides, which angle downward. Some of these roofs may be flat on top. The design of the roof makes it harder to construct than gable roofs. Unlike the gable roof, hip roofs hold up well against high winds.
Shed
A shed roof can be used to cover sheds, porches or parts of the house that may have been added on. These can sometimes be used over an existing roof. It is typically used to cover smaller structures. The types of roofs are available in different designs.
