Security Gate Officer Duties

Security gate officers ensure the safety of the people frequenting their venue. Duties range from clerical to physical tasks. Security gate officers should keep in shape so they can protect their patrol area efficiently. Security officers can offer their services after hours at parties and other events.

Several security gate officers scheduled to handle an event should station themselves at the entrance to the event. A few others should move to other exits in the venue to ensure traffic is monitored at all locations. The security gate officer should know all hiding spots and trouble areas on the grounds. If someone visibly or audibly signals for help, the security gate officers need to either call for backup or investigate the situation themselves.

The perimeter of the venue should be patrolled regularly to keep out intruders. Gate security officers may choose to provide security services to private clients. Some security clients prefer their guards follow inconspicuously while others prefer their guard to stay highly visible. Guests that cause excessive issues at the event should be escorted out immediately. Rowdy guests make everyone feel uncomfortable and unsafe.

Large scale parties may require more than a few security gate officers to handle tickets and crowd control. If the client supplies an invite list, security officers will be required to check off guests on the list. Security gate officers match the name on the guests’ idea with the name on the official guest list. Uninvited guests may try to sneak into high profile parties.
