Selling Your Furniture on craigslist
People can sell anything and everything on craigslist, which makes it a great resource if you want to sell your furniture. There is no cost or fees to list items on craigslist. It is a popular site that reaches a large audience, so your chances of finding a buyer are high. There are a few guidelines you should follow to help ensure that your item sells quickly and easily.
- Post your ad. Go to the craigslist website and click on "Post to Classifieds". Next, select "For Sale/Wanted" and then select "Furniture" as your subcategory. Choose your local area from the list provided. Fill in the required dialog boxes. These include title, item description and email address. In order to protect your identity, craigslist will assign you an annonymous email address that will forward to your direct email address.
- Describe your item accurately. Highlight the positive qualities of the piece, but be honest. If you know if any structural flaws, disclose them. Describe any wear and tear the item has.
- Make your ad stand out by including a picture. Include a photo of the item you are selling. This will increase viewing traffic for your ad. Most people will ignore ads without photos, because they want to see what they are buying before they commit to purchasing it. If your item has any scratches, holes or damage, take pictures of those, as well. This will allow a prospective buyer to have an accurate visual description of the item.
- Determine a fair price. craigslist is known for bargains. If you overprice your item, it is unlikely to sell. If you are open to offers, state that in your ad. Otherwise, set your price based on the age, quality and condition of the item you are selling.
- Respond to all inquiries. You will receive emails from buyers who are interested in your furniture. To increase your chances of selling the item, reply to all emails that you receive.
- Make the sale. Because you are selling furniture, you will most likely have the buyer come to your house to pick up the item. Be safe and use common sense. Only meet the buyer in the daylight. Have another person at home when they come to pick up the furniture. If the piece of furniture you are selling is small, consider meeting in a neutral public place to sell the item. Only accept cash as payment.
- Remove your ad once the item sells. This will save you the hassle of replying to multiple email inquiries to say that the furniture has sold.
