Side Effects of Curcumin
Curcumin is the compound that makes up the Indian spice of turmeric. It gives turmeric is yellowish orange coloring and is often used in curry dishes, dipping sauces, and condiments such as mustard. Studies show that consuming too much curcumin can cause a few side effects.
Warnings
Curcumin is a substance that is also a blood thinner if often consumed. It is advised to not eat too much of the product if one is on medication that already thins out the blood. Curcumin should also not be eaten if someone has a type of blood disease that is causing thin blood. If a person has gallstones, curcumin should only be eaten at least once every two weeks. This is because although it can prevent gallstones, it will close the duct in which gallstones can leave the body. It is also highly recommended to not eat curcumin if one has a stomach ulcer.
Minor Side Effects
A few cases of eating too much curcumin products will make the person feel a bit woozy. Since curcumin does not have many nutrients, one can get an iron deficiency if they mainly eat curcumin in their diet. Nausea is also a common side effect and will only last until the food is digested. Diarrhea is an ordinary occurrence if curcumin is consumed on a daily basis. Also more scientific evidence needs to be conducted, as curcumin may affect pregnancies and cause miscarriages if eaten in large doses. It is advised to stay away from turmeric when pregnant.
