If your car paint color is starting to look worn and old, you can give you car a new car look by repainting it. Spray painting a car is the easiest way to make it look clean and new. With the right guidance, and equipment you can get your car looking good in less than a day’s time.

Things you'll need:

  • Sandpaper

  • Wax remover

  • Car wash detergent

  • Brush

  • Sheets

  • Tape

  • A paint sprayer

  • Primer

  • Paint

  • Putty and knife

  • Goggles

  • Mask

  1. Clean your car using the car wash detergent and a brush. This will remove all dirt, debris and grim that would make spray-painting your car difficult to do. After you are done washing your car, use wax remover to give the paint better adhesive. This is the most important part of spray painting a car.

  2. Remove all rust and rough spots of the car using sandpaper. Wipe away any loose dust from sanding with a rag. If there are any pit marks on your car, us some putty to fill them in.

  3. Allow your car to completely dry from the wash and putty. Cover any areas on your car that you don't want to paint, such as windows and tires. Use old sheets and tape to cover up the area surrounding the car.

  4. Start with a primer first to have better adherence of the paint as it goes on. This also gives the car a more solid clean look once you finish spray painting. Allow time for the primer to dry and then sand it down just a little bit to make it a little rough prior to applying the spray paint. This will help the overall look of the spray painting.

  5. Use a spray gun or aerosol paints to spray paint the car. Apply several thin coats as needed. Do not spray the paint on thick as this can make the paint look messy and clumpy.

  6. Apply a clear coat of paint to add shine and to seal up the color and look of the paint. Allow plenty of time for the car to dry before you drive it.
