Steps to Changing a Motor Scooter Tire
Motor scooters can be fun to drive; however, there will come a day when your scooter will either get a flat or need replacing. Changing a motor scooter tire is really quite a simple do-it-yourself process. Knowing how to change a motor scooter tire will prevent you from having a roadside mishap.
1. Gather the proper tools to change your motor scooter tire:
- Tire levers
- New tire tube/new tire
- Gloves
- Rubber mallet
- Flathead screwdriver
- Socket wrench/socket to fit wheel nuts
2. Make sure the scooter is stable, so it won’t fall over. If you are changing the rear wheel you will need to prop up your scooter a bit so it does not hit the ground. Use the socket wrench to unbolt the old wheel from the wheel hub.
3. Remove the wheel from the hub. You may need to hit the wheel with a rubber mallet to loosen it from the hub.
4. If you already have a spare tire for your scooter, you simple need to place the spare on the wheel hub and fasten the bolts.
5. If you do not have a spare tire you will need the proper size tire tube to replace the old one. Remove the tire from the rim by first deflating tire. Use the tire levers to pull the tire over the rim.
6. Place the new tube inside the tire making sure the air spigot is placed on the correct side of the rim. Be careful not to pinch the new tire tube in between the tire and the metal rim. Inflate the tire slightly to secure the tube in the tire.
7. Place the tire back on the wheel hub and fasten the bolts. Re-inflate the tire to its correct pressure.
8. Check the tire to make sure it is not loose. Sit on your scooter and rock back and forth to see if the tire is stable. If you feel it is on properly, take your scooter for a test drive. If all is working, as it should, you’re good to go!
