Supplies and Tools for an Auto Radiator Repair
Before beginning to repair a radiator, you first need to gather the tools and supplies that will be needed to complete the job. Most of these supplies can be found in auto parts stores. Repairing the radiator can be a simple or complicated task, depending on what needs to be repaired.
- Wrench and pliers are needed to loosen the bolts that attach the radiator to the car so that work can begin on the radiator.
- Nut driver is used to loosen and tighten the clamps that are around the radiator hoses. This will help change out the hoses.
- Coolant Exchanger is for the purpose of removing and replacing fluids in the radiator. Coolant exchangers are usually handled by professionals.
- Drain Pan is used to drain the radiator's coolant fluid. This will need to be done, no matter what type of repair the radiator needs. After draining the fluid, it needs to be poured into a plastic container and disposed of properly. Letting the fluids drain on the ground can allow toxins to pollute groundwater.
- Water is needed to flush out the system once the coolant and other fluids have been drained out of the radiator. This step is done to clear out any remaining coolant or other fluids. This can be done using a garden hose.
- Cleaning Rod is used to remove blockage in tubes that was not or cannot be removed by flushing alone.
- Pressure Tester as indicated by the name, checks the pressure of the radiator. These have a hose and valves with several attachments to fit different makes and models of automobiles.
