The Differences Between Cars & Trucks

There are many differences between cars and trucks. Some are easily recognized and some are harder to see. If you are comparing cars and trucks there are many factors to consider. Cars and trucks are both great modes of transportation, but can be used for different purposes.

Both are acceptable modes of transportation, but cars and trucks are very different vehicles with different features and uses. Cars, especially smaller makes and models, receive very good gas mileage. Trucks generally have larger engines and get lower gas mileage. This means there can be a monetary difference between operating a car and a truck.

Passenger cars are used for just that, carrying people. Trucks can carry passengers, but also have a bed which is designed carry larger items. Most cars do not have a bed, but instead have a trunk to store or transport smaller cargo items. Towing capacity is perhaps one of the largest differences between cars and trucks. Trucks possess more horsepower are designed to carry and haul heavy items. They can also pull boats and campers. Cars are not designed to pull items or carry more than the recommended weight listed in the owner's manual.

Cars and trucks also have visible differences. One that is particularly noticeable is the size difference. Trucks have larger tires and sit higher off the ground than cars. Cars run on shorter tires and ride closer to the ground. Due to the suspension, most cars have a smoother ride than trucks. The difference in doors is also very noticeable. Since cars carry passengers they usually have four doors to provide easy access in and out. Trucks are usually not equipped with as many seats as cars. They sometimes only contain two doors since not as many passengers will be riding along.
