The Meaning of Flowers in the Month of March

Every month of the year has its own special flower; each flower symbolizes traits that we associate with those who are born in that month. There are a number of variations of each flower species for each month as well.

Flower for the Month of March

The flower for March is the daffodil. The Latin name is narcissus. Daffodils are most noticeable around Easter, because these are one of the first flowers of spring. Normally yellow or white, daffodils have a trumpet-shaped head. The smell is sickly sweet. This perennial flower will bloom early and only once, but will come back year after year. You can find them in other colors, but typically only in a hybrid species.

Daffodils can be grown from bulbs. These flowers will appear just as the snow melts and at their height reach almost 2 feet. Daffodils are known for lasting several weeks in a vase, and the intoxicating smell will liven up any room. These grow in almost any climate, which make them a popular flower in many areas.

Meanings

Some refer to the daffodil as hope; this is because it is normally one of the first signs of spring after a long winter, a sign of rebirth. It is a symbol in Wales and in England referred to as the lent lily. It is said that the daffodil symbolizes respect and love.

The daffodil is suitable for giving to friends as well as loved ones, and makes a wonderful Easter bouquet.
