How Distance Education Works

The Role of the State Department of Education

For every state in America there is a Department of Education or state education agency. Each agency is designed to take charge of looking after certain matters that may be related to the educational programs in each state. There are a number of different tasks that these departments are in charge of and each of their roles plays a large part in determining how funds and exams are distributed among the schools.

  • Each state education department is in charge of determining the requirements that a person needs to meet in order to get their teacher certification. Teacher certification is required to be a teacher or professor all states but not all states have the same requirements in order to become a teacher. If these requirements are not met, then you will not be able to get your certification to teach regardless of the kind of teacher you want to be.

  • Student exams are also determined by each state's education department. There are many standardized exams that each state must have students take in order for them to study how the teachers are performing and how well the students are learning. Some of these standardized tests are also designed to determine if the student is ready to graduate high school. Each state has a different type of test, but for the most part the tests are very similar.

  • One of the biggest tasks that state education department must complete is determining solutions for issues with teachers and school districts. Their main task is to identify the major issues and make them known to the teachers and educators so that they can find a proper solution for them.
