Three Basic Types of Physical Fitness
Physical fitness is any type of action that is intended to enhance and maintain a good, healthy body. Weights and other equipment may be used or exercises like running, swimming. There are three basic types of physical fitness; strength training, agility training and eccentric training.
Strength Training
Strength training is the use of weights to increase muscle, strength and anaerobic endurance. Gravity and elastic/hydraulic forces can also be used as resistance against the muscle. Strength training as a form of physical fitness is highly beneficial if done correctly. It increases bone and muscle as well as tendon and ligament strength. It also reduces the potential injury and increases metabolism and cardiac functions.
Agility Training
Agility training enhances dexterity and quickness of movement. Agility training is especially important in sports and athletic careers. Balance beams, obstacle courses, yoga and ballet are all part of agility training. Agility training requires strength as well as coordination and endurance to be successful. Speed is an important part of agility. Short and long distance running can contribute to excellent agility.
Eccentric Training
Eccentric training is placing an emphasis on the final stage of each exercise. Focusing on the backward flex of a bicep curl is an example of eccentric training. It is much more demanding than other types of physical fitness. Eccentric training is important to challenge the muscles and stimulate growth. Drawing out the muscles during the exercise challenges the muscles and leads to increased metabolism and quicker muscle repair. Eccentric training can also be heard referred to as negative training because of its tendency to push muscles past their normal point of failure. Eccentric training exercises can be done with weights or without such as floor exercises.
