Tips for Drawing Hobby Horse Pattern

Small children love to play with a hobby horse.  Going to the shop to buy a professionally made model will give you together time with your children, but you pass up the opportunity to share a great pleasure of making this simple toy from your own design. Making an easy to follow guide will help you and your child to make a decent hobby horse pattern.

Materials Needed:

  • A pair of old blue jeans

  • String

  • Polyester filling (which can be acquired from a craft store)

  • Felt

  • Yarn

  • Glue

  • 3-foot-long wooden dowel with a 3/4-inch diameter

Instructions:

  1. Cut off one jean leg about two feet up from the hem. Turn the cut leg inside out then use a string to tie the bottom tightly closed.

  2. Next, glue the felt eyes and the nostrils on, and at the same time the leg's right side is on the outside.

  3. Arrange 35 strands of yarn into bunches of four, each strand eight inches long, for the horse forelock and mane. Tie each bunch in the center with another strand.

  4. Cut 8 3/4-inch vertical slits this should be spaced a half inch apart starting 5 centimeters above the eye view of the horse somewhere in the middle of the pant leg. Then, weave a single bunch of yarn into the first and second slits; this is to ensure that there is resemblance between the ends stick out and the forelock. Make sure to weave the bunches left over through the left over slits to form the mane.

  5. Cut the jeans' back pockets and tie the tops using a string; this will be used for ears. Trim the ear slits around the head and put in the pocket's tied ends.

  6. Fill the head of the horse with filling made of polyester all the way up to the ears. Put in one end of the wooden dowel.

  7. Use more filling on the neck and tie the edge on the lower side of the neck tightly to the dowel. In conclusion, wrap a string bridle round the nose of the horse.

  8. Paint it with some non-toxic acrylic paints, once you are done making it.
