How to Find a Job Working for Dog Groomers

Tips for Hiring Dog Groomers

Hiring a dog groomer can be an important task for many dog owners. Not only can washing and combing fur be time consuming but many other tasks may be required that busy dog owners don't have the skill or ability to complete.

Ask for Recommendations

Ask your veterinarian or friends or coworkers for recommendations on dog groomers to consider.

Consider Your Dog's Needs

When looking for a dog groomer, consider the needs of your dog. Should the groomer be experienced with the particular breed of dog, or does your dog require extra services such as inspecting and expressing anal glands?

Interview the Dog Groomer

Call the dog grooming company to find out the services offered, price points and other details. In addition, find out about insurance and certification the groomer has, as well as any medical training or first air experience.

Dog owners should also find out how the dogs are treated before, during and after grooming. Are the dogs sedated for grooming? Where are they kept before and after the appointments?

Ask for References

The dog groomer should be able to provide two to three references of current customers. Call each reference and ask about their satisfaction with the groomer. Have they had any problems with the groomer?

Visit the Groomer

Visit the dog groomer to visually inspect the location. Does the interior and exterior of the building seem clean? Do the dogs appear happy and healthy? Is there an area outdoors for the dogs to run?
