Tips for Maintaining Your Car Brakes
Car brake maintenance is very important to ensure that your car is working in a safe and reliable manner. All brake components must be checked on a regular basis and replaced when needed. If you are unsure if your brakes are functioning properly, then you will need to get them checked by a professional immediately.
- Check your brake fluid often to make sure that it is kept at a good level. Add fluid when the level of brake fluid has dropped.
- If brake fluid looks milky, it may need to be changed. You can do this by bleeding the brake lines in your car. Ask someone to assist you by pumping the brakes as you open the bleeder valve located by each tire.
- Make sure that the brake pads in your car are not worn down. You can do this by removing the tires of your car and looking at the pads. If there does not seem to be much material left on the pad, then it is time to have the pads changed.
- Inspect brake discs to make sure that there are not any grooves on the discs. If the discs look damaged, then they should be replaced.
- Have your breaking system checked at least twice a year. If you feel that your brakes are not working properly, then it is very important that you get them checked right away.
- Brake slowly to ensure that your brake pads last longer. Slamming on the brakes will wear pads quickly.
- Make sure that all brake lines are clear of rust and other debris. You will also want to make sure that no fluid is leaking from the lines. If the brake lines look damaged then you should have them inspected right away to ensure that the brakes do not fail.
