Tips for Owning Riding Stables
Horse owners are passionate about their animals. They are often willing to pay a large sum of money to ensure that their horse is properly cared for and housed at quality facilities. If you are interested in opening your own riding stables, you have a lot of work ahead of you.
- Educate yourself. A quality owner will be knowledgeable about all aspects of horse health, care, exercise and nutrition. You will want to be able to help any of your clients who come to you with questions, and you will want to be able to recognize and correct any issues that you notice from the outset. It is a good idea to enroll in some educational courses and learn the trade from experienced horse handlers.
- Get the proper insurance. Many insurance companies offer policies that are geared specifically to equine facilities such as riding stables. Check with your insurance company to ensure that you have sufficient coverage in case of injury or damage.
- Choose your employees carefully. If you are in need of hired help, make sure you complete a thorough interview and hiring process. Once you hire a new employee, put them through a detailed training program to ensure that they are knowledgeable about all aspects of their job. All of your employees reflect on you as the stable owner, so you need to hire people who know how to do their job well.
- Price yourself competitively. This is especially important if there are a number of riding stables in your area. Do some research to determine what the competition is charging and what types of services they are offering. Set your prices so that you are competitive, but still maintain a decent profit margin. Consider offering a new or unique service in order to add more value to your client's experience.
