What are Electrical Contractors?

Tools Required for an Apprentice Electrician

As an apprentice electrician you are still learning your trade and collecting your tools. You will gradually add tools to your arsenal as you grow in your apprenticeship. To start out, however, you only need a few basic items to make sure that you are able to make a solid beginning.

Hard Hat

You never know when you will be at a job site that is still under construction. Because construction sites require hard hats, you should have one handy at all times.

Safety Goggles

Regardless of whether you are at a new construction site or working at some other type of job site you should always have safety goggles to protect your eyes. If you wear glasses, remember that they are not enough to protect your eyes.

Gloves

Depending on the particular job you are working on, you may need gloves to protect your hands.

Wire Strippers

Wire strippers are a basic tool that all electricians need. You may eventually collect several different styles and sizes, but start first with a basic set to get you going.

Side-cutting Pliers

Side-cutting pliers are just like standard pliers but they also have a sharpened edge that allows you to cut through wires without having to pick up a separate tool. As with the wire strippers, you may eventually collect side-cutting pliers in different sizes.

Screwdrivers

You will eventually need screwdrivers of varying sizes and lengths, but to start out you should have one each of a Phillips screwdriver and a flat-head screwdriver.

Tool Belt

Your tools need to be protected and easily-accessible while you work. A sturdy tool belt can keep everything together and right where you need them.
