When it comes to repairing a computer, there are many different tools that need to be used, including diagnostic tools, hardware tools and software tools. By knowing what tools are needed and having them on-hand, a computer can be repaired with the expense of a computer technician.

Hardware Tools


Hardware tools that are needed to clean a computer are simple and basic. You will need a screwdriver, a penlight, tweezers and a can of compressed air. The type of screwdriver will depend on the type of screws that hold the computer together; the most common tends to be a Philips head screwdriver. Depending on the type of computer repair, it may also be helpful to have a USB drive or external hard drive as well.


Software Tools


Software tools that you may need to repair a computer are the operating system software, antivirus programs, antispyware programs and the discs that have the software for the computer’s hardware. All the software discs should have come with the computer when it was purchased or with the computer hardware if it was bought separately. If looking for antivirus or antispyware software, Malwarebytes, Windows Security Essentials and Super AntiSpyware are highly recommended.


Diagnostic Tools


The basic hardware tools are those that allow you to test the memory of the computer or test the hard drive of the computer. One such tool that is used to test computers for memory problems is called Memtest. A popular tool for testing the hard drive of a computer is called SeaTools.
