Baker Publishing
Baker Publishing began in 1925 by a 14-year-old boy named Herman Baker, a book lover and collector who came to the United States from the Netherlands with his family. He opened his first store in 1939 at the young age of 28. The first store was opened in Grand Rapids, Michigan. The store shelves contained about 500 books that were used and were from Herman’s personal book collection. Herman Baker died in 1991. The store has gone through several owners since then, leaving Sue Smith and Rich Baker are the current owners.
