Top Things to Know About How to Get Jobs from Employment Agencies

In today’s competitive job market, many people are turning to employment agencies for professional help with finding a new job.  There are dozens of employment agencies you can sign up with, so it’s important to learn a few important tips about looking for work through an employment agency before you decide which companies are the best fit for your needs.

  • There are two different types of employment agencies.  Some employment agencies offer temporary jobs and handle your payroll, so you are technically employed by the agency even though you are working for a different company on a daily basis.  Other agencies offer full-time jobs.  Once you are hired, your relationship with the agency is severed.

  • Temporary assignments can turn into full-time jobs.  Most people don’t like the idea of temporary work, but it can help you get your foot through the door of a great company.  Impress them, and they might hire you full-time.  Some companies specifically hire workers temporarily to test them out before hiring them full-time, although they usually disclose this ahead of time.  One good way to find out if a temporary assignment can become a full-time job is to ask your recruiter at the employment agency if the position is temporary with full-time possibility.

  • Some employment agencies specialize in one or two industries, which can be helpful if you are looking for a specific type of job.  Because they are able to focus on a specific industry, recruiters at specialized employment agencies usually have a larger inventory of jobs than agents at traditional employment agencies.

  • Beware of scammers.  While there are many legitimate employment agencies that can help you land your dream job, there are an unscrupulous few that are set up to take advantage of vulnerable unemployed people who are desperate for work.  Don’t respond to advertisements that make claims that sound too good to be true, and avoid agencies that ask you for a signup fee before they agree to work with you.
